For those of you who've got access to Freeview HD ch81, Freesat ch306 and to SKY ch343 there are a couple of ancient B/W films, saved by the BFI which you might find an interesting watch. One is a 'drama' TINKER; a young 'traveller' lad enrols as an apprentice; there's a great chase sequence through a coke works and up on the aerial ropeway. The other a semi docu-drama thing BLACK DIAMONDS much of it shot at Hickleton Main around Barnsley and the Wakefield miners rescue station. Forget the hammy acting, they're not long but here's some great archive stuff. I think they're 1930s - 40s era.
On this channel stuff 'does the rounds' so you've a few chances to catch these; TINKER is off at the moment but BLACK DIAMONDS is on once or twice a week.
