We all get it, the unsolicited junk mail dropping through the door which we neither want or need, and large organisations obtain a mailing list and either send it to a named individual at an address, or simply to "the occupier" which essentially means they are mail shotting, but dealing with this in the UK is very easy to do if you get fed up with the same junk mail dropping through your door from the same companies every week.
First - look up the headquarters of the company/companies targeting you and find their headquarters and their address and the name of the chairman of the company or group of companies targeting you.
Second - you do a lawful notice which is actually a "Lawful Notice To Cease And Desist" and you type one on your computer, it must tell them in the case of "the occupier" to cease and desist sending you marketing material or any material associated with selling you any of their products or services, it must also say that you will be including a "Fee Schedule" and that by sending you any further marketing or sales material they will be deemed to be agreeing to your fee schedule.
Thirdly - You draw up a fee schedule and you list every charge and the price you will charge for it, e.g. Receipt of unsolicited correspondence £100.00 nunc pro tunc; response to unsolicited correspondence £100.00 nunc pro tunc, Charge for labour £50.00 per hour or part hour nunc pro tunc; and you can include any charge you like, maybe mileage per mile, car parking, postage, and any other loss at whatever price you want, you then add your terms and conditions such as payment must be made within 14 days and after this time you will add interest at 5% per week for late payment Do not be greedy or stupid with your charges.
Fourth - Print out both documents and sign your letter, scan and copy them AFTER SIGNING so you have a true copy of the original document, if you print out two copies of your lawful notice to cease and desist and sign them both it isn't a true copy of the original document and it can hinder you later on.
Fifth - You take your original signed notice to cease and desist and a fee schedule and go to the post office, get them to send it "signed for delivery" which costs about £1.70 and send it, keep your receipt as it has a tracking number and you track it online; when it is delivered it tells you the time and you get a copy of the signature of the person signing for it along with their name, print this off as evidence.
They should stop sending you junk mail; if they don't they have entered a contract with you agreeing to YOUR TERMS AND CONDITIONS and you simply send them a bill if they send you anything except a letter of acknowledgement.
They send you another marketing letter, copy this and keep the original as evidence, you have laid out your terms and conditions, you have sent the letter, they have received it and you have the signature and name of the person signing for it, and they have sent you more marketing blurb, its all there in black and white, they cannot deny it, they claim its an administration error? fine, you don't accept responsibility for their errors; they claim they didn't receive your letter? bullnuts it was signed for and you have their signature and name; they claim they aren't aware of it? tough, they wouldn't accept responsibility for your ineptitude if you owed them money so you don't accept responsibility for their ineptitude, its that simple.
Every time they send you a letter its another £100 you add to your bill for the letter and another £50 for your labour; if you respond its another £100 for sending the response and another £50 for a part hours labour plus any mileage charge for travelling to the post office plus whatever postage costs there are.
If they refuse to pay its straight to the small claims court and get a liability order, you even add their costs on (actually they add them on but its semantics) and you win.
Always remember anything said orally in court is worthless as in court paperwork wins everytime so you need to be impeccable with your record and documentation keeping.

Never seem to get any junk mail after I signed up for that mail preference thing, still get bills & TV licence reminders though. Local pizza place shoves flyers through the letter box every few weeks but they usually have a money off coupon inside so don't mind that. If they do start sending junk mail again I'll take your advice, thanks for it..

That's it, just what I needed, a fool proof, perfectly legal way of becoming a millionaire, possibly almost overnight (if the amount of junk mail I receive is anything to go by), what sort of return could I expect from a nominal 5 or 6 pieces of targeted crap that is shoved through my letterbox each week? Does this include supermarket flyers and milliards of begging letters, expectant envelopes and plastic collection bags from charities by the way, or the weekly free local advertisement full, newspaper that I receive, could I sue every individual company or persons that advertises their products or services in such forced on me publications. I really appreciate this sort of info Showgun, how to beat the system legally is just about everyone's dream, no TV licence, no driving licence, no need to pay speeding fines, no such thing as parking fines, brilliant, I can live a life of almost no cost or repercussion providing I don't murder anyone or don't take anything that I don't realistically(as a Straw-man)believe I'm entitled to, I can hardly believe how free I have now become,I can even refuse to comply with Census requirements and feel clever and privileged to have done so, I very much appreciate these sort of posts, especially the ones that save, or make me money or thank Goodness, make me feel less guilty about burning coal, oil, diesel or old people purely to keep warm and safe in the dark, keep em coming.
Don't you just love the variable concept, variety of input of this well controlled and organised Coal Mining and Colliery Concept forum, or not ?
I just about give up, where the "chuff" (as Keith Lemon might ask) are we going ?

I don't get a lot of junk mail, I always tick/untick the required boxes when buying online. Same as my phone number, I generally use 01234567890 when filling in details online unless of course I'm doing something important. I'm just fed up of people phoning up trying to sell me stuff.

We don't have mailed delivered to the door in rural areas, so it's not a problem, most if any junk mail just gets thrown into the Post Offices garbage bin. We don't seem to get a lot of posted junk mail stateside, seems most companies are using email spam, as that gets filtered into the spam box, it doesn't bother me.

Well Dazbt you could look at it as a coal replacement as if you shred paper and mix it with water and leave it for a few days and agitate it you get pulp, of you make a simple press and use a hydraulic jack as a power source you can produse your own paper logs, which, once dried make an excellent fuel.

Perhaps there’s a tinge of irony to that, taking other people's imposition of lienteric wordiness and re-extruding them as useful logs, bit like tygwyn’s idea but with a tad more technical twist, probably provide the same calorific value either way ................ now there’s a cue for someone!

Here in the village we produce them as everyone has a log burner and to an extent it is semi automated using adapted machines we have ripped out of commercial premises and modified, and the village kids make tons of them and add cow muck from the farm and general shredded woody products such as sawdust or shredded hedge clippings from other residents to make them and distribute among residents as fuel for their log burners.
As far as calorific value is concerned the addition of the muck increases it and with the addition of the shredded woody products it increases further, while not as good as coal it is fairly close in heat generation and burning times, and best of all its all free and a good way of reusing waste products. Best of all is that anyone can do it at home and if you still receive coal and are short it makes a nice supplementary way of stretching it with a little time and effort.
