Never felt anything in the mines I worked in, in the UK, but we did have a large quake when I lived in Wollongong NSW, cracked the brick walls in the three story flats I lived in. Following evening at work, I had to locate an Eimco LHD for an elec examination of the lights. I was told it was behind some air doors near so and so drive head. Damned if I could find it, I ended up getting lost!! This was old Bord and Pillar workings in the returns, so everything was black. I eventually found my way back to the air doors. Being old workings it was pretty settled, but there was a bit of noise and some roof did "dribble", never noted the time. When I got to surface someone asked if If felt the aftershock at so and so time, seemed it was a pretty big one, all I could assume was the bit of noise and roof "dribble" was associated with the aftershock.
We had a few when I was working in the Western Coalfield of NSW, but never felt them U/G.

When in South Africa we had many "bumps" or seismic events daily. It was large areas of old mine workings collapsing. You felt loads of them on the surface, feel a little shake or hear cups and plates rattle. I was underground one day and there was a big bump. The hole place shook! A bump or seismic event has the potential to cause a lot of damage and injury due to falling roofs etc.
If you look on the British Geological Survey site you can search for earthquakes. Last year there were many located near Ollerton, Notts caused by the workings of Thoresby colliery.

We used to get "bumps" when lifting pillars off at Wongawilli Colliery, just south of Wollongong NSW, what they were caused by was pressure relieving itself, the massive sandstone floor cracking. Pretty unnerving to new starters!
