Spot coking coal prices started the week on a quiet note in generally limited activity, as Indian and Japanese end-users showed little buying interest while sellers held off ahead of the Q3 2014 contract talks in Japan this week.

Is coal on the international markets sold mostly as futures contracts, spot market sales or some other way? I've also seen derivative markets mentioned but don't know if they apply to coal..
