100yrs on the 14th October,439 Men and Boys were killed in this explosion,also one of the Rescue Men perished as well.
A monument to these Miner`s of this disaster and other disasters in Wales has been erected on the site of the Universal Colliery as a memorial to their deaths.
Others who were lost in the quest for coal in numbers less than 5,will be forever remembered in the hearts of their families.

A truly terrible disaster indeed.
One thing struck me about the remembrance ceremony which I saw on tv was the apparent lack of any comment or representation by any of our more prominent mp,s ,political parties or indeed our pm who normally jump on any bandwagon to pay tribute or commend this or that group for any acts of service or sacrifice to this country.
