I am looking for any information or photos of my grandfather Walter Smith who worked at Wollaton Pit I think after the war. Thanks in advance Richard Briers That's a pretty tall order!! Wollaton closed in the early 1960's and I worked alongside a couple of ex Wollaton electricians who transferred to Clifton, Earnie Gerrard and Dave Watson, both in their 40's back then...Finding anyone now who actually worked at Wollaton, alive, is going to be extremely difficult. I only wished in hindsight, I'd asked those fellers more questions back then, and took more photos of the old pits way back....I also recall another ex Wollaton electrician, can't think of his first name, but his last name was Agar.
Just a suggestion, if you live in Nottingham, see if you can make an appointment with the city council archives, tell them what you're looking for, I know they have an extensive photo collection of the Nottingham coal industry, the NCB donated thousands of photos to the archive.
