I was on the belt staff at Hucknall pit. We'd been called to the black shale - deep soft drift belt because someone had put a jack on the bottom belt & it'd gone into the return end & jammed it up, we reversed the belt, freed it & all was well. We decided to make a plough for the bottom belt so it didn't happen again. We found an angle iron to bodge up a plough. Did we stop the belt while we rigged up the plough? Of course we didn't, we left the belt running, we lost control of the angle iron & it went into the return end & ripped a 20 feet gash it the belt before we could stop it. The Overman then went berserk & ranted & raved for about 20 minutes threatening to sack us all. Oh what fun we had. ;D ;D ;D

We never stopped them then, it was usually a coordinated effort to put any wiper on while it was running.
