UPDATE, on the two latest 'accident';
At least 56 people have been killed in two mine disasters in China this weekend A gas explosion killed 37 miners Sunday at a private mine near Dengfeng, in Henan province, state-run media reported. Sixty-four miners escaped and another seven were rescued after the blast, according to the Xinhua news agency. In a separate incident, a coalmine fire in the city of Hegang killed 19 people, the agency said. After the fire started about 3:30 a.m. Saturday, 12 miners escaped, but another 12 are missing, the agency said. The odds for survival are slight for the 12 missing miners "because of the severity of underground conditions," the agency said, citing local rescue headquarters.
