The men have had 6 weeks notice of closure by Walters ,this is a few weeks after the pumps were turned off at Unity after failing to attract a new purchaser.
That leaves the South Wales coalfield with 2 Smallmines,Danygraig No4 and Nanthir No2.

There seems to be new owners for Aberpergwm Colliery ,purchased from Walters Energy recently,no mention yet who these people are,i would hazard a guess investors,as it seems they`re throwing 10 million at it,and supposedly to start back soon as job applications have been floating around for a while now,
Also a rumour Unity is also starting back with its debt written off by the receivers, but that is just a rumour.

We'll keep our fingers crossed. Is there enough skilled labour these days to man a pit locally Jim??

Good question, the workforce at Unity from start to finish were nearly pensioners, lol.
Aberpergwm workforce were younger, but depends on the availability to work, having found more secure[if that`s possible]work outside the industry,
Time will tell.

The owners are still a mystery Daz,
CM`s were used last going off,but there`s still around a 1,000 metre`s of drivage in the new drift to get down to the take,
Dan y graig No.4,a small mine in Crynant,in the Dulais Valley,a few miles up the road from Cefn Coed Colliery museum.

Strange that the "new owners" haven't stood up for a photo call, do you think there might be some sort of sinister fiddle to write off 'owings' by yet another Jim W. sideshow or, could it be there's a slight lack of confidence ? ......................... either way I hope it is successful, any chance you've dusted off your old hatchet and hired yourself an assistant cowhand?

It is strange as you say not to get their faces out there, personally I think their a bunch of venture capitalists, with a plan to get in and out as soon as possible, the duff market for Aberthaw powerstation ends in 2025 unless it has a reprieve,so they need to be quick and throw money at it and get into the take.
