Hilltop on stop due to Deputy going to that Boulby place,
Here`s some photos,http://www.flickr.com/photos/b3tarev3/sets/72157613994897443
With a section of coal like they have, why do they use them barrow size drams?,and open proper stalls and cut some bottom and get proper drams in there, save a lot of shunting around.

Kevin is at Alston i presume, when you say loading shovel for the headings,do you mean an Eimco? How`s it going up there with him,how much of an output are they producing?

Hi Clive, Let us know what`s happening with Hilltop next time your over that way. Kevin is at Alston i presume, when you say loading shovel for the headings,do you mean an Eimco? How`s it going up there with him,how much of an output are they producing? Its not an eomco Jim but a much smaller thing. I don't know how much they are producing (or getting paid) Last time i cleaned his windows he showed me the vids...like a kid in a sweet shop he was. So I showed him my new window cleaning pole...but he wasn't that impressed. They are using a multi jib. It more or less takes the whole seam section, just leaves a few tops. It was tried years ago but they then reckoned that the coal was too small. Now however it seams they are happy with nothing bigger than doubles. They have set up a long face, with multiple entries (to get the stone for the packs as much as anything). Not sure how long the face is. It will struggle when it takes its forst big weight if they havent got enough stone in the pack. Still bits of teething troubles with gummers ect but they will get thre. He needs to produce as much as he can with the small number of men. Trade fell off with ther pit being closed for a few years. People have moved on now...oil and the increasingly popular wood burners. Alstoncoal was always very good but quite sulphery when you emptied the parkray. Folk just accepted it but as time has moved on and folk have found alternatives they mightnt like to go back to it. But it is a very good coal
