Hatfield is the UK's future coal wise. It should be looked after, it has millions of tonnes of coal to the east. Drax is building a new coal plant that will require coal. Energy policy wise we need coal, the government needs to start looking at coal again.

Don`t think many from Mining backgrounds would disagree Wheldale, But a future also needs apprentices, was that they were told to find other work just a rumour?

Well with the global cooling taking place now, governments had better start sorting out energy policies, or a lot of people are going to have to go without heating and power....I was reading this morning the north polar ice cap has grown 29% larger from August 2012 to August 2013. There are ships stranded in the ice that were heading through the North West Passage through summer before the Canadians closed the passage. We had 10-12 inches of snow a week ago and are recording record lows across the country, including record lows for the daily highs. 10-12 inches might not sound like a lot of snow, but when we only average 12 inches for a whole winter season, and we get 10-12 inches in one day!!! And normally our snow period is mid January to March...Winters started early and with a vengeance and we are at 36.6983 degrees latitude, that's on level with the Straights of Gibraltar.... So I'd hate to be spending winters in the UK over the next few years...
Shame about apprentices losing their jobs, sounds like the apprentice schemes in the UK are well and truly messed up.. Remember in the 60's, apprenticeships were ten a penny, glad I served one, my none apprenticed mates were earning a ton more money, but I had the last laugh.

Lucky your living where you are John, them up in Minnesota have had a really early winter,
Over 100,000 cattle lost in snow drifts and died in sub zero temps.
It was one of the Ex Unity training boys that mentioned about the Hatfield apprentices,i thought one of the Yorkshire boy`s here would have been able to confirm or not,now this news of the Trust Fund LLP taking over ownership from ING,and Hargreaves walking away from their management role, just seems an odd coincidence if its true.
