A gypsum mine in East Sussex (which is about 50 miles from the former Kent Coalfield) was advertising for Class 11 electricians, I applied as I have both Class 1 and 11 but, at a telephone interview, they decided I used my qwualifications too long ago!!!, they can't refuse you on age any more, but this appears to be a way around it!! Incidentaly, where on earth are they going to get electricians with MQB class 1 or 11 now that virtually all the pits have closed?

Although I never went there, I do remember that the Rescue Teams from the Kent Collieries used to cover this mine and carried out exercises there

I don't think it's a condition of the M&Q Act Sam, as gypsum comes under the Miscellaneous Mines Act...The only person who requires a ticket was the Mine Manager... Things may have changed since I worked for BG and Boulby Mine. Boulby required the Mech and Elec Engineers to have a BSC as too the Manager, and shift supervisors had to have a Class2 ticket, but that was ICI's rules at that time.
